On the first day of History of Higher Education, at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a beautiful red head offered a chili spiced mango to a bewildered Italian. We wouldn't say it was love-at-first-spice, but after being randomly assigned to several group assignments that summer we just clicked. After surviving our first graduate-level class we began dating and fell in love. And now we can't wait to spend the rest of our lives together!
We both grew up in the suburbs outside of the country's largest cities, Hannah from Los Angeles, and Chris from just outside of New York City. Our engagement pictures were taken in Manhattan, which represent our love of the city and all of our great experiences exploring the the East Coast (and our passion for exploring cities across the world in general). Our wedding will be in California, Hannah's home state and our favorite vacation destination. Though our home towns couldn't be farther apart, we're so glad to have two incredible families to help bridge the coasts. We hope that we can share our love of traveling by giving you the opportunity to travel to a new area and celebrate with us.
In September 2013, Chris' job temporarily relocated him to London for 3 months, which was the perfect amount of time to plan a secret proposal. With a little help from some close friends and family, he came up with the perfect secret plot: For Hannah's half birthday, he would fly Hannah's parents and sister out to their home in Connecticut and invite up his family from New Jersey, decorate the entire apartment for Christmas in June, propose a champagne toast to welcome the two families together, and ask Hannah to be his wife.
It was a real struggle for everybody to keep the secret for the entire 6 months he was back in Connecticut in the beginning of 2014, and as you can tell she never saw it coming! We spent the rest of the day celebrating with our loved ones as we planned to bring our two families into one.
All photos were taken in Manhattan, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Central Park, a quiet cafe in the Upper East Side, and the Flatiron District. They all have significance to us, and we hope you enjoy a glimpse into our relationship! All pictures were taken and are provided by the incredible Dave Shilling, who we had a blast with and somehow made it not at all weird to have some guy we skyped with one time get all up in our faces with a camera for several hours.
